George Best was sometimes referred to as the 5th Beatle. If so, Frank was the 6th. His early footballing brilliance was evident on the streets of Belfast and, by his teens, he was trying out for Cliftonville and attracting interest from scouts on the other side of the Irish Sea. However, the town wasn't big enough for the both of them and, whilst George jetted off to the distractions of Manchester, Frank was distracted by a young lady from Derry.

Nonetheless, Frank's passion for the game remained strong and he took up refereeing - earning the moniker "Dr. Discipline". Pierluigi Collina later referred to him as his "biggest inspiration" whilst Tofik Bakhramov credited him as "one of the greats of the profession".

As a spectator of the sport, Frank's enthusiastic reactions are world-famous. Many cite the "tooth-breaking incident" during United's 1968 European Cup victory over Eusebio's Benfica but true aficionados consider Frank's crowning glory to be "the flying dinner plate" as Robbie Keane slotted home an injury time equaliser against Germany in the 2002 World Cup.

A keen guest of the Preds in recent years, Frank will definitely be one to watch as he joins the Preds fold for the 2009-10 season.
